I've been working class, under class, middle class and upper class... I've also been a crook, a respected person, an entertainer, an idiot and a parent. I have four university degrees, many trade qualifications, I know loads of stuff, I've been round the world and I'm enjoying my life... One thing I don't give a **** about is class, it's not important... be yourself and do your stuff!

Although I'm also a big fan of Blind Willie McTell's Dying Crapshooter’s Blues I think everyone should do themselves a big favor and listen to David Brombergs version of the same song off the How Late'll Ya Play 'Till album. This is a full band version that might very well be one of those songs that can turn a non blues believer into a blues believer. It doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy.

If you haven't tried to publish this type of article in a major paper, you should give it a try. It needs to be available to as many people as possible. This is amazing information.

I've grown up in an upper middle class family and as both my parents have high education in sociology, have been aware of who is 'middle class' and who is 'working class'. For us it was defined as a cultural thing. middle class people go to art galleries, the theatre and own many books. they are senior and well respected in their field of work. The kitchens are situated carefully so the morning sun comes in, they don't eat fast food and they don't own instant coffee. my parents were very open minded and left wing, another 'middle class' trait. they never looked down on anyone or thought they were better than other people. I dated 2 boys, both typically working class and they were welcomed to our family. there were obvious cultural differences between us, and while i never tried to sell myself as middle class, they were both very proud to be working class and thought middle class people who took holidays and owned art were snobs. they also tended to be right wing and thought that our relationship would last forever and were in a hurry to settle down. They also had a large TV which they kept on through dinner time. my family rarely sat down to dinner because my parents worked late and i trained for sport late at night, but this family obviously valued 'quality family time'. and yes, they were more generous than my family and thankful for what they had.

You have an excellent story here. I have not been in Canada since January 2nd, and heard that today. This is an absolute shame as Mark Knopfler, one of the best singers/songwriters.
Its a shame the people in Canada keep taking it, as one of the great songs has to be changed..too bad Canada.

Don't care. Just give Australia back it's right to INCANDESCENTS. STOP THE BAN. I am for saving environment (trees, water, so on). I am also for saving human environment (proper lighting - Incandescents in calm areas).
Australia is being ruined by bad CFL / Fluorescents. Just visit Parramatta Shopping Centre its all way too bright with dangerous levels of strong lighting. And CFL's just above your head in downlevel eating area. It's terrible. I have to take my own incandescents when travelling Australia because hotels, motels rooms, homes, restaurants, pubs, many many places becoming CFL's and Fluoro'd to discomfort. Shame on the gov't for dictating this in-humane sterile 'ultra-in-humain-efficient' environment. STOP BURING ALL THAT COAL. That is the real culpret. More solar/wind/so on. Gov't get your grimy fingers off our globes. STOP THE INCANDESCENT BAN. Cheers, Ron Lentjes.
