Spud’s Wines – Issue 4

Once upon a time in Bali

Domaine du Tremblay - Quincy 2005 ($30)

Sauvignon Blanc

8.5/10

When taking a quick trip to Bali for dinner it is integral to make sure you have the best of everything.  While enjoying some appetisers it was time for some wine.

First to be opened was the Quincy.  When a wine comes from a region where the only permitted grape is Sauvignon Blanc there is fair chance you could be onto something good.  A great poet once said: ‘French wine is to Vinyl, as Aussie/NZ wine is to the Compact Disc’.  This phrase is well and truly backed up here.  A classy wine with great colour and texture and completely tannin                                       free, this is a luscious delight, we saved half of the bottle for our main and decided to try ‘The Blonde’.

Head – ‘The Blonde’ 2008 ($32)

Shiraz Viognier

8/10

This is my first review of a wine from the great Barossa; this one is a beast, a rich plum colour with a great aroma and a hit from all around the table.  I have also read about its sister wine ‘The Brunette’ which sounds like it may also be pretty special; stay tuned as you may see a review of it in the not too distant future.

The main event was when our host with the most served up an incredible feed of Baliwanese Snapper cooked in banana leaf and amazing spices, which we complimented perfectly by the rest of the Quincy, polished off a great expedition to Bali.
